If you have not yet taken the placement test, or are retaking the exam, here are some tips for preparing for the exam.

First realize that when you sit down to take the test, you will be given the opportunity to choose the level at which you start. There are three levels from which to choose: Easy (MATH 81/84), Medium (MATH 84/85/98) and More Challenging (>MATH 098). Where you start does not matter because the test adapts its next question to how you have done up to that point on the test. However, knowing a good level at which to start on the exam means understanding what you do and and don't understand at this time. Use the links and information below to help you determine where to start in the exam.

Understand what the placement test is likely to ask you. To do this, please view the graphs below to see how the exams are composed. (Use the Back button on your browser to return to this page.)

Arithmetic Questions (For placement past MATH 081)
Basic Algebra Questions (For placement past MATH 084 or MAT085)
College Algebra Questions (For placement past MATH 098)
Trigonometry Questions (For placement past MATH& 141 or MATH& 142)

Once you have a feel for what material is on the exam, you may want to review some of the topics that you have seen. One way to do this is to go to the library and check out the books for the current courses at SCCC. By looking at the table of contents, you can identify where to go for more help. We suggest looking at Chapter Reviews for extra problems. Some online tutorial links are included below as well.
